An Interim Review, Wed Oct 05 2005
Reviewed By: Stewart

Maybe it's because I was recovering from a virus when I visited, maybe it's because we only did the northern half of the Justice Trail ...
Much of it was like old-school mountain biking used to be - paths, tracks etc that were always there, you just rode your bike on them. Which means a lot of bumpy farm tracks and a lot of people walking their dogs (never seen so many dogs in my life). The purpose-built man-made bits felt kinda compressed and fiddly compared with (say) Glentress - picking a narrow route through trees, avoiding natural hazards on the man made tracks, short twisty berms, etc.
Couple of things to note - although the maps don't mention it, the Lanton woods section is clearly designed to be ridden in a clockwise direction. If you do the Dere St section first then connect to Lanton Woods you'll be riding up a wooded section that would be better downhill, and have to do cover a lot more ground to get round the Lanton Loop. Finally, be aware that to join Dere St and Lanton sections you have to cross the A68 at a less than ideal point - not too much a problem for us on a Sunday morning but perhaps different for a family in the middle of Summer.
